The Wind And The Queen

by Duncan Jones

A very long time ago

Though not the longest time ago

(For we have already read about that)

The wind, the devious and ever so mad

One who had a hand in the way of the land

Was swirling about ... trying to decide

Who would rule the grasslands ...

"What do you think of the others?"

Asked the wind unto the rhino

So he said what he had to say

And now you as well as I know

And some of it was good

While some of it was bad

For some others made him happy

While some others made him mad

"And what do you think of the others?"

Asked the wind unto the stripes

So he said what he had to say

Using words of many types

Yes some of it was good

While some of it was bad

For some others made him happy

While some others made him mad

"And what do you think of the others?"

Asked the wind of the gazelle

So he said what he had to say

And hoped no one would tell

And some of it was good

While some of it was bad

For some others made him happy

While some others made him mad

“And what do you think of the others?”

Asked the wind unto the snake

So he said what what he had to say

Sssso sssslowly, no misssstake

And some of it was good

While some of it was bad

For some others made him happy

While some others made him mad

“And what do you think of the others?”

Asked the wind of the elephant

So he said what what he had to say

In a tone smooth and elegant

And some of it was good

While some of it was bad

For some others made him happy

While some others made him mad

The wind asked unto the buffalo

The other horns and all the spots

All the birds and all the climbers

And they all said lots and lots

Wild dog, giraffe, and crocodile

Meerkat, hippo ... all the same

And the warthog and hyena ...

So the wind kept up its game

“And what do you think of the others?”

Asked the wind of the lioness

"I don't," was all she said though

And there was nothing to confess

And none of it was good

And none of it was bad

For no others made her happy

And no others made her mad

And swirling all around the wind

Delighted in what it heard

Then racing through the grasses

It rushed to spread the word

“The golden huntress rules the land

She’s no fool nor is she mean!”

And that is why the lioness

To this day is still the queen
