Let My Shades Drop Down

by Duncan Jones

Got a summertime soul hey now ain’t that cool?

My only summertime sadness is the countdown to school

And oh my good golly they got me up in the show

It’s my own damn folly I don’t know where to go

Have you ever failed (Remington)? Only at life

They all bought and brought guns, but I made my knife

Two cents for free now cut the dangerous bets

Ain’t never out matched no I can do this in sets

Red white and blue mutt I’m always up in the cut

My windows stay open but my door’s not shut

Just the quintessential eloquent American muscle

But if you don’t love to run my son then don’t hustle

Know the part that is the hardest is that of the hardened artist

For you’ll find yourself alone chasing ghosts in the darkness

Sometimes I might feel better if I’d just sit and cry

So I sit myself down sometimes and I try

And when the sun comes out and it might be my day

I let my shades drop down and it all fades away

I’m too wide for Nikes so don my ah-dee-dahs (Adidas)

And then I write another song it goes lah-dee-dah

Appreciate and give thanks and I take time to dance

And then I take another break and thank the good Lord for yoga pants

If’s can be dangerous and’s ok I like buts

We all got this new low from this middle class rut

I’m gettin’ older by the day but younger by the minute

Pull my laces for the race in case I find myself in it

Because I blow through my money guess it helps me to breathe

Guess I don’t mind relying on the tricks up my sleeve

I’m from the land of the man that we’re all caught workin’ for

I know all about it seen the money and I’m so bored

Work hard to work harder all American way

But I don’t think I like it I don’t think I’m gonna play

Had enough of the stuff we’re gonna add to the shelf

So spend my time writin’ rhymes entertainin’ myself

Would rather play a sweet tune like the ice cream man

And let you have an afternoon like nice dream can

Cursed with the gift or maybe gifted a curse

Hard to have a role model when you’re always in first

So I run to my headphones where the djs play

Let my shades drop down and it all fades away

I’m too wide for Nikes so don my ah-dee-dahs (Adidas)

And then I write another song it goes lah-dee-dah

Appreciate and give thanks and I take time to dance

And then I take another break and thank the good Lord for yoga pants

Another night past one and I’m too fun to drive

So turn my other side on and I let me come alive

Then I ask her to dance she has cheetah print style

Say “Hey I like what you’re wearin’ I got a thing for the wild”

Now we’re chattin’ time flyin’ ‘til the party done dies

"Boy it’s time to get gone lemme give you a ride"

"I appreciate it thanks but it just wouldn’t be proper

To leave my pilot out back with my new helicopter

You know it’s blue like the sky so we could just fly away

I got an island of violets and we could go for the day ...”

"No way but ok you know you might be my type

But enough with the stories I’m not a fan of the hype!”

"Fine I’m in politics, can’t you tell by my smile?"

"Now it’s your last chance to get my number to dial ..."

I was in once again but then the timing so right

"Yeah girl you caught me lying, my helicopter is striped!"

So I bmx home ‘cause she was probably cray

Ride with shades in the night and it all fades away

I’m too wide for Nikes so don my ah-dee-dahs (Adidas)

And then I write another song it goes lah-dee-dah

Appreciate and give thanks and I take time to dance

And then I take another break and thank the good Lord for yoga pants

I’m too wide for Nikes so don my ah-dee-dahs (Adidas)

And then I write another song it goes lah-dee-dah

Appreciate and give thanks and I take time to dance

And then I take another break and thank the good Lord for yoga pants
