A Country Song About A Knight

by Duncan Jones

I can see the drawbridge closing

Should probably try to hide

I’ve seen it close a hundred times

Just never from this side

And the lanterns looks so pretty

On the walls against the night

Would be nice enough to pause this

Right now before the fight

That castle’s not the biggest

But she really does look strong

Guess it doesn’t really matter though

We were completely wrong

You know the part that gets me?

Is I know I’ve been out paced

No I don’t wish was them stuck out here

I just hate to lose a race

So suddenly the pressure’s gone

I’ve got no news to bring

Oh I know I should be quiet

But I just really want to sing

I can hear that there is someone

In the tower with the bell

I hope they light the arrows

I hope they give ‘em hell

Hope a few can run on horses

Like that girl I seen around

She looks pretty with hair up high

And better with it down

She’s not the type to run though

No she seems like a fighter

And now that I think about it

That’s exactly why I liked her

They must be right behind me

I see soldiers on the walls

It makes me smile until I laugh

To see them standing tall

Might be the freest that I've ever been

Sure is a funny thing

Oh I know I should be quiet

But I just really want to sing

I don’t know if I’m scared

I thought this would feel much worse

Must be a secret they don’t tell you

So you try to come in first

Oh well now back to the forest

This time I’ll beat my friends

A story ain’t that scary

When you already know the end

So go on, keep the bell alive

I love to hear it ring

Oh I know I should be quiet

But I just really want to sing
